End of fishing season gear management: The capelin catch was plentiful. These fishermen are rinsing off their valuable nets and getting them ready for storage. This scene is in Brigus Newfoundland where traditional fishing methods live on.

Jamieson Clothier, Toronto’s classic architecture, 30" x 24", Oil on canvas

Originally built in 1895 as the Philip Jamieson Clothier Outfitter at 2 Queen Street West. The facade looks brand-new after six years of restoration. With new ownership in 1985, planning began for restoration of the aging landmark building. The uninteresting cladding was peeled back and the process of salvaging and reconstruction began.

This fenced, weathered shed in Brigus Newfoundland has so much character I was inspired to capture it in the bright light and colours of surrounding setting.

Hawthorne Cottage was the Brigus home of Captain Robert Bartlett. His international fame came after he commanded the Roosevelt for Admiral Peary’s North Pole expeditions as well as the Karluk in Steffanson’s Canadian Arctic Expedition (1913-14).
